If I could pick a day to be my "Groundhog Day", it would be this one! If everyday was like today, I would be a superduper happy camper. The girls were up at 5:30 AM sharp. They prepped for the day last night, so this morning went so smoothly. They were so nice to each other and sweet to me. I know the novelty will wear off, but I am enjoying it while it lasts. I put on my gym clothes and walked the girls to school. Then Dionna picked me up from the apartment and we went to the gym. It felt great! Afterwards, we did some shopping for workout clothes, had lunch, and went to the self-help hardware store for free supplies to use in our base houses. I finally showered...I know....ewwww...and then went to pick the girls up from school. They had a wonderful day. They love their teachers and each met several new people today. They had a snack at the dining room table and told me about their day. Each of them dove right into their homework (I must have been slacking in the homework department when I taught 2nd, because Emily has nightly homework in addition to a reading log!). They are still being sweet to each other this afternoon. Kenzie says, "I love school. I missed it so much." Awww!
I still don't have my car despite daily calls to the auto dealer. Someone is either at lunch, there is another car before mine, or they are "maybe waiting on a part." It hasn't been so bad being a pedestrian. Brian takes me to the far away places like the commissary after he gets home, but I am feeling the need to be mobile again. Now, I am all jazzed about this gym routine and the gym is on the opposite side of the camp from our house. It would be a workout just walking to the gym. I would show up, have a drink at the drinking fountain and then trudge back up the hills home again. Plus, I'm big on air conditioning. I hate sweating...that is why I chose swimming as my sport. I could take a taxi to the gym, but that seems weird. I can't wear my headphones while walking/running around the camp because of safety regulations. So, I would have to either look like a crazy person and talk to myself or listen to Mother Nature and, frankly, she bores me a lot when I am exercising. I don't even have a cool accessory like a dog or a baby in a jogging stroller. Thank goodness for D, she picked me up today and if conditions are ok on Thursday we are going to venture out to Maeda Point to snorkle. I think tomorrow I will try and covertly wear my headphones while sticking to some of the residential areas. If I get thrown in the brink, I'll just call Brian to come pick me up. I bet it is way on the other side of the camp.

I may be inept here but...can you listen without the headphones??? just nice and low so the neighborhood doesn't have to know your current playlist??? There was a gal at the bank doing that...except she wasn't walking and none of the rest of us liked her music...or her dancing...
Good for you! How about getting a bike, it's quicker than walking and you'll be warmed up when you get to the gym. I know, that wouldn't solve the sweating part but it's at least it gives you a bit of a breeze.
Ps The girls are so cute in their outfits, I miss them - give them a big hug from me!!
K: I would, but my earphones are configured so that you can't hear the music unless they are in your ear canal :(.
P: Good idea. I have my mountain bike here, just need to fix a flat. Those darn goatheads from Mt. Home poked a hole in the tire and I never replaced the tube. I will have to take a picture of one of the hills I have to navigate down to the gym. It is like San Francisco! You have a great view of the ocean all the way down, but I think I would be concentrating on the road:). I think I will have Brian look at the brakes as well!
The girls miss you guys too! They love to see the pictures on your blog. Whenever we talk about football the two of you inevitably come up! They totally associate the sport with you guys!
I am glad the girls had a great first day of school! :)
You should ask Emily's teacher if they want to do penpals???
And homework already??? Crap... I am slacking. :)
What a great idea! Mrs. Cavanaugh is a neat lady. Her mother was a DODDS teacher so she graduated from High School here (her mother still teaches at a fellow DODDS school). She taught one year in Florida and then the past 9 years here on Okinawa. She has done 1st, 1st/2nd, and now 2nd grade! I bet she would love the idea. She already has agreed to let me do some nerdy science stuff with the class and experiment on them for my Masters. How is your class this year?? You have to email me!
