The typhoon has strengthened to a Cat 4 and is barely tracking north at about 2kph. This slow movement over warm water means it is growing in force, but has swung westerly. It looks like it may split the distance between Taiwan and our island. This means that it will hit us later (Monday) and the effects will be lesser due to the fact that it shouldn't be a direct hit. We are still in TCCOR 3 because they have classified the storm as "wobbly and erratic". I bet she (he?...Are hurricanes/typhoons like boats? Do you call them she, even when they have masculine names like Brutus or Dave? Either way, I have no idea about Sinlaku...I think it is a reference to a Filipino goddess..quick..somebody Google it!...so I guess it is she...anyhoo....) takes great offense to this description.
We are having a great time learning about weather. I think the girls are like me. Stuff seems to stick in our minds more when we have to apply it practically. All summer long (May-November, really) our little spot on the Earth is in TCCOR 4. This makes me think of road hockey. We are all out there, playing in the street. Suddenly, Mother Nature turns the corner in her big old Cadillac. Game off!! Everyone grabs their stuff and bails for the edge of the road, watching the vehicle go by. If you use that analogy... We are currently standing on the sidewalk, waiting to see if the Caddy turns down a side street. It is not quite "Game on!!" yet.
Even if the cyclone doesn't hit until Monday, we will have bad weather this weekend. We are supposed to have buckets of rain and thunderstorms, with gusty winds. We are looking forward to seeing if it really can rain upwards. Oh, did I mention that the Air Force Ball is Saturday? I apologize for the pictures in advance. We are getting all fancy and I just know we are going to end up looking like something out of a SNL skit with all the weather. C'est la vie!
