My Current Favorite Song

This song is my current favorite and it is not a Nickelback song. What??? It is "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. I just love the whole vibe of it and the video is neat too. I like its tropical travel theme and its message... "Open up your mind and you're free" "We're just one big family and it is our God-forsaken right to be loved". Soapbox time...Narrow-minded people chap my hide. I think they are my #1 pet peeve. Okay, that is done and off my chest. If you have some time, watch the video. It will chill you out, I promise.

P.S. It makes me look forward to next weekend. We are camping at Torii Beach! It is Gretchen and Joey's wedding reception, so we are having a big beach party and sleeping on the beach! Sweet. The only downer..I have to play stinkin' beach volleyball. Where is Misty May when you need her?

question: what is a God-forsaken right?

Being that I am neither a philologist nor the writer of the song, I can't give you a concrete definition. I can only give you my interpretation of the phrasing based on its artistic context. IMHO, he is referencing a basic human necessity that gets trampled on frequently, giving the impression that it is abandoned or forgotten..forsaken. I think using the phrase "God-forsaken" is a way to make it a very powerful image. Who knows? Maybe "God-given" just didn't rhyme and we are all reading too much into it. That is thing about art, it is not black and white. If you want to know the true meaning of it, you will have to ask Mr. Mraz...or the blond philologist from the web.
