Odds-n-End of the Week

Today was a fun day. Dionna came over in the AM and we went for our walk. Afterward, I made some homemade iced coffee, skinny and non-fat of course, and we settled in to watch the VP debate. I am one of the "middle-class undecided voters", so I am riveted to the closing days of the campaign. I have to say Sarah Palin was very likable. Even though I disagree with her on some of the moral/environmental issues, I was rooting for her to do well. I am still not convinced about her substance yet...same goes for Obama. I am going to do more research on the candidate's military and education stances (my top issues) and keep watching the debates. I like being able to hear from the candidates directly and not through the filter of the media. My absentee ballot is sitting on my desk, I am just not quite ready to fill in all the bubbles! After the debate, Dionna helped me reorganize my kitchen. I am even thinking about putting a little bit of paint on the walls. If Brian makes Master next summer we will be eligible to move into Senior NCO housing and I will have to repaint everything back to our current stunning color that I can only describe as dirty magnolia. I think it would be worth it to have some color even for a few months and if Murphy's law holds it will increase the chances of the promotion. The paint will be in the kitchen and it has been awhile since I have had a theme in there. I am leaning toward an "espresso/cafe" theme... Any color suggestions?? Dionna also helped me hang some curtains I got at Jusco yesterday. I had to use tension rods due to the metal doors and when we got the curtains home, we discovered that they had the traditional hooks on the back. Hmmm....how to make it work??? Well when in the ghetto.... I decided to use small zip ties to make rings. Ta Da! It does make a huge difference in the softness of the place. Those plastic vertical blinds were just too cold and institutional. After our afternoon together, D went home and the girls arrived from school all excited. McKenzie won the election at school!! She gave her speech yesterday and they voted her in as student council secretary today. She was so happy! She won on a platform of good documentation and a promise to "promote better education by supporting more books for the library." McKenzie is really into the presidential election too. Her class follows it at school and she is desperately trying to convince her father and I to choose Obama. Yesterday, D brought over a game all about the electoral college and we played it with the girls. They loved it!! Emily arrived home all excited today because she lost a tooth at school. It was her second one in two weeks. It is almost like a steady paycheck for our dear little Gappy. She got a really cool case for her tooth from the office to boot. Does it get any better? For dinner, we made homemade pizza. Emily made the girl's pizza and McKenzie made Mom and Dad's pizza. The girls had plain cheese (with flax seed in the sauce) and Brian and I had a Veggie Delight (red/green peppers, onion, and sun-dried tomatoes)...Nummy.
