Okinawa World

On Friday the family went to Okinawa World. It is a touristy (is that a word?) spot all about Okinawa. Brian had the day off...it seems like he has a lot of those, but he doesn't really. He gets some comp days because when they do Silver Flag, they teach Sunday-Sunday and have some LATE nights. Anyway, we are thankful for his work schedule and that we get some fun family days. This was one of them.

The first thing we did when we got there was take photos! Emily took the picture of the hibiscus. Very nice!! Then we explored a cave. It was neat. There was mood music and everything. The girls chattered away the whole time...as they do when they are into something. Poor Brian he lives with three talkers. Next we wandered through an area that was designed to look like a traditional Ruyuku village. It was full of artisans who allowed you to practice Okinawan crafts (glass blowing, pottery weaving, printing, kimono dressing, taiko drumming, etc). Finally we went to the Habu museum where we got to learn all about our local pit viper. Scary! Look closely at the picture with the tree...there are hundreds of Habu hiding in it...it is kind of like a nightmare version of Where's Waldo! There was a childrens part to the museum and the girls got to handle a snake (not a Habu...but handling any snake is brave in my book), see a mongoose (they were imported to the island for snake control), and play with the cute tree lizards. It was a fun day. We got an early start, had fun, and made it home in time to get Emily to gymnastics.

I can't believe you are touching those snakes! You are braver than your gramma.
