Today I had to describe my ideal classroom. This was what I dreamed up.
My ideal classroom would include the following:
1. a low student-teacher ratio, preferably 15:1
2. a diverse student population
3. a full time classroom assistant
4. an inclusive classroom with adequate resources to address all student special needs
5. a computer and internet access for every student
6. a Promethean Board
7. square footage large enough to have specialized areas in addition to sufficient desk space
8. specialized areas might include a full kitchen and a science laboratory.
9. an attached bathroom to limit lost instruction time
10. a supportive administration
11. a Love and Logic school wide discipline plan
12. a close working relationship with fellow teachers and even a collaborative teaching experience
13. an involved community willing to supply learning opportunities outside the classroom
14. a district and state budget that allowed my dream classroom to come to fruition

BB... When you find this "dream" job let me know! I don't even need anything past #1! Currently with a class over 27, 15 would be wonderful. You did forget one thing though... competative salary! Mtn Home is still in negotiations for our contract that started in September... YES, SEPTEMBER! They think 31,000 is fine for a 3rd year teacher with an additional 30 credits of continuing ed. (ok... thanks for letting me vent my frustrations about my school district)
But, I am fortunate enough to have wonderful colleagues and a supportive administrator. :)
I know...Mtn. Home needs to get on board the fair salary train!! I can't believe your numbers are up in that range again. Are you making good use of my old room? You should knock out the wall for some added space!!!
you are SOOO in teacher school! All those lofty ideas about what teaching in THIS world should be like! Just picture the classrooms in heaven!! movable walls, wild/peaceful animals IN the room, VERY supportive colleagues, no F's to give out....:)
I never thought of knocking down that wall... I would have so much room! :) If I do that though, they'll probably double my class size since I have the space! :) Better stick with what I have.
If you can find a job like this...I will change my major!!!
Kate: Good job for sticking to your guns...you are worth so much more!!!
